General Requirements to qualify as a Certified NRA Firearms Instructor:

  • Candidates must have completed the student version of the course in the discipline they wish to be certified to teach, e.g. NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - ILT, NRA Home Firearm Safety, etc.
  • Candidates must possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Instructor candidates must be intimately familiar with each action type in the discipline for which they wish to be certified.
  • Candidates will be required to demonstrate solid and safe firearm handling skills required to be successful during an instructor training course by completing pre-course questionnaires and qualification exercises administered by the NRA Certified Training Counselor.
  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete the NRA Basic Instructor Course (BIT) as well as the Instructor Training Course in the discipline they wish to teach (e.g., NRA Basic Pistol Course, Home Firearm Safety, etc.), and receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting that training.

         Basic Instructor Training (BIT)                6 Hours


DESCRIPTION:

This course is a core requirement for all NRA discipline specific Certification  Courses (Basic Pistol, Home Firearm Safety, Personal Protection Inside the Home, etc.) except "Refuse To Be A Victim"

This course is a one-time requirement                                          and is valid for 2 years.

Instructor Candidate must complete the Pre-Course Questionnaire

Basic Pistol Shooting Instructor Course (BPSC) - 10 Hours


DESCRIPTION: 

This Course certifies the Instructor to teach the        NRA's Basic Pistol Shooting Course (BPSC) - both the Instructor Led Training (ILT) & the Blended Learning (BL) versions. 

PREREQUISITES:

Each Instructor Candidate will have completed the BIT course within the last 2 years as well as the BPSC (student version).  Also, they will complete the Pre-Course Evaluation consisting of safely loading & unloading D/A & S/A revolvers and a semi-auto pistol.  They will safely clear "failure to fire" & "double feed" stoppages.

On addition they will qualify at 45' on an 8" circle with 16 of 20 rounds within a 6" group on target.
